Jun 26, 2012 · I just bought a computer a couple months ago and noticed Minecraft was really laggy (new computer is not an option, no $$$) and i found this FPS boosting mod called Optifine. Only problem is all the download sites seem a little sketchy :), and my Norton Security Trial is over. Is Optifine Mod Safe? Where is a safe download?

When you look up “optifine 1.14” the first thing that comes up is a fake website (minecraft-downloads dot com, and it very closely resembles the real Optifine site). I didn’t notice this, and carried out the installation. Currently I’m virus-scanning my PC and should be alright, but I don’t want anyone to make the same mistake. If Optifine gave you a virus, it probably wasn't Optifine. It was more likely that the site you downloaded on was sketchy and ripping the mod and making profit by doing that. I'm using Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials as my anti-virus and anti-malware, so they probably blocked the malware from downloading.
